Title: | Oscar Wilde. A plea and a reminiscence |
Published: | 2002 |
Annotation: |
In August 1896, Lord Alfred Douglas wrote a passionate article for the Mercure de France in defense of his incarcerated friend, Oscar Wilde. The piece was nothing if not outspoken and included some love-letters from Wilde to Douglas, which, according to their recipient, 'rank among the most magnificent the world has ever seen'. The article was withdrawn at the last minute, and Douglas subsequently destroyed the holograph of his original text. Fortunately, the manuscriptn of the French translation survived.
Introduced and annotated by Caspar Wintermans. The text was set in Van Dijck-type and printed on Oud Hollands in an edition of 250 copies. A part of the edition was bound in half vellum by Frans den Breejen (with slipcase). 53 pp, two illustrations. |
